The Daily OrangeWarrick earns Big East Player of the Year title

Hakim Warrick was named Big East Player of the Year on Tuesday. Warrick beat out Providence forward Ryan Gomes, St. John's guard Daryll Hill, Boston College's Craig Smith and a slew of other conference players.
SU guard Josh Pace also won the conference Sportsmanship Award.
Warrick averaged 22.1 points and 7.6 rebounds this year for the Orange. He finished second in the conference in scoring to Gomes, and finished fourth in rebounding. He's also a candidate for the Wooden Award, the Rupp Award and Naismith Award.
Warrick is the third SU player to win the award. Derrick Coleman won Player of the Year in 1990 and Billy Owens won in 1991.
On Monday, Warrick was named to the Big East first team. Pace earned an honorable mention.
Pace averaged 10.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists this year for SU. Guard Kueth Duany was the last Syracuse player to win the Sportsmanship Award in 2003.
SU plays on Thursday at 9 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament against the winner of Notre Dame and Rutgers.
