Brian T. Shaw, the former Syracuse University student arrested in connection with the murder of Chiarra Seals, is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday after charges were filed at his grand jury hearing, said Pat Quinn, the chief assistant district attorney for Onondaga County.
Shaw faces charges of second-degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child, said Quinn, who is also prosecuting the case against Shaw.
If Shaw issues a not guilty plea, his trial could begin as early as the end of August, Quinn said.
Seals, 23, was the mother of Shaw's 4-year-old daughter. Seals also had a 17-month-old son, who was not fathered by Shaw. Both children were present at the time Seals was killed, which is why Shaw is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child, Quinn said.
Shaw was arrested the evening of March 23 and pled not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder at his first arraignment on March 25. He has been held in custody since.
