The Syracuse women's basketball team came five points shy of earning a bid to the Big East tournament, falling to Cincinnati, 59-54, at Fifth Third Arena. The loss ends SU's season.
If the Orange had won, it could have earned the final ticket to Hartford, Conn., for the tournament because St. John's lost to Marquette and Providence lost at Villanova. Instead, St. John's will go in its place.
With a career-high 31 points, SU freshman Nicole Michael broke the school single-season scoring record, finishing the season with 501 points. Michael scored the final 13 points of the game for the Orange and went 12-for-12 from the free-throw line.
Syracuse went into the second half with a 28-22 lead after shooting 47.6 percent from the field. But the Orange was outscored 37-26 in the second half.
Syracuse finishes the season with a 9-20 record and a 3-13 record in the Big East.
