The Daily OrangeSU student pleads not guilty to murder charge

Former Syracuse University senior Timothy Ginocchetti plead not guilty to one count of second-degree murder today at 8:30 a.m. in Onondaga County Court, said Judge Anthony F. Aloi, who is presiding over the trial.
Ginocchetti's case has been adjourned to April 18 at the same location and time for further pretrial, he said. Omnibus pretrial motions for release, which is when further motions will be presented to the judge, will occur on May 21.
Defense lawyer Emil Rossi could not be reached for comment.
Ginocchetti, an engineering major and Manlius native, was indicted on Thursday for allegedly stabbing his mother to death on the evening of Aug. 23.
During that evening, Manlius police found the body of his mother, Pamela Ginocchetti, inside the home at 11:30 p.m., after Ginocchetti called 911. Pamela Ginocchetti was pronounced dead on site, and at the request of the police, Ginocchetti left the home and was taken into custody.
Ginocchetti is the son of John Ginocchetti, formerly of the Fayetteville Fire Department, who died in a house fire in Pompey, N.Y., along with Timothy J. Lynch, on March 7, 2002.
The community raised more than $300,000 to support both the Ginocchetti and Lynch families. Ginocchetti was given a scholarship to attend SU, where he made the dean's list during spring 2006.
