Best coffee: La Tazza
Coffee. That's what La Tazza is all about. Or is it atmosphere? It's hard to decide where the coffee shop excels when we're lured in with funky tunes and comfortable chairs. Yet we know it's the different, yummy coffees that are keeping us going and staying awake through class.
Best diner: Doc's Little Gem
Despite its not so inviting exterior and surroundings, Doc's Little Gem is by far the best diner in the area. Its cozy interior and delicious eggs make it a favorite among all college students. It seems we found our own little gem right here in Syracuse.
Best breakfast: IHOP
Mmm, we can almost taste the pancakes drenched in syrup melting in our mouths. You know what we're talking about: IHOP. With friendly service and a variety of breakfast foods to satisfy even the breakfast-hater, IHOP has it all, leaving this timeless restaurant from our childhood in our hearts forever.
Best late night: Augie's
After we spend all our money at the bars, it's great to have Augie's cheap prices and throngs of students to fall back on. It's the perfect place to ingest calories to add to the beers we just binge drank, making it the late-night spot worth remembering the next morning.
Best pizza: Varsity
Not too greasy, definitely crispy and always delicious, Varsity pizza never fails to put a smile on our faces and keep our tummies begging for more. An abundance of toppings and a taste that's to die for make no other pizzeria come close to the one that's reigned since 1926.

When you get sick of the dining hall - or sick from it - Pita Pit is considered the best cheap restaurant in Syracuse to go.
Pita Pit certainly serves its purpose to college students. It's inexpensive, conveniently located and fairly healthy - something we don't experience too much these days. Located on Marshall Street, Pita Pit prides itself on its quick service and low prices. Pitas range anywhere from about $4 to $6, and salads cost no more than $6.95. You may choose what kind of pita you want, and include whichever toppings and sauces tickle your fancy.
Although freshman Julie Kessler, human services major at Onondaga Community College, said it's more of a "lunch choice," it's also available for those late-night cravings throughout the week. It's open until 3 a.m. every night, and 4 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Pita Pit also delivers up until half an hour before closing time, and you can order something from the menu on campusfood.com. The Pita Pit Web site also has a chart detailing the caloric intake and nutrition facts of all the meats, bread, toppings and sauces in the restaurant
It's also a good choice when you're out and about at the bar-hopping scene. Eric Grenier, senior broadcast journalism major, said those are the nights he's usually there because you can "get stuff and go" and they "put anything you want on (the pitas) for the same price."
So whether you're out late at night making bad choices, or you just want to make a healthy choice, Pita Pit is the place for you.
Average Restaurant
It sometimes becomes difficult to trust the meat in the dining hall, and meat-eaters are simply not fans of the vegan section. In cases like these, it's time to go to the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. Although it's best known for its pulled pork sandwiches, it also offers chicken breast and beef sandwiches, along with custom grilled plates, combos and fresh grilled salads.
Though it also offers Web takeout, the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is one of those places you need to physically go to. Freshman Kevin Smith, policy studies and linguistics major, said it has a "unique ambiance" and is "iconic" in Syracuse.
Dinosaur Bar-B-Que offers live music and entertainment Monday through Saturday. You can go to their Web site, dinosaurbarbque.com, to find out about upcoming events and artists. The general consensus about the restaurant is it has a "biker" feel to it, so it may not be the best place to take a date, but it definitely offers "more for your money," said senior broadcast journalism major Eric Grenier. He thinks it's great because of the "college kids, bands and cheap beer." So, once again, if you want legitimately cooked meat and some background music, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is the way to go.
Pricey Restaurant
Pastabilities is Syracuse's best higher-priced restaurant when you're looking for a nice place to eat out with friends and family or somewhere to bring your hot date. Located in Armory Square, Pastabilities is one of those restaurants everyone talks about because its homemade pasta is just that good.
Entrée prices range from $8 to $24, but for the food, it's worth it. In fact, Pastabilities has gotten a lot of recognition from the Syracuse New Times and other newspapers over the years. Syracuse New Times included it in its Best of Syracuse edition, and it has received other accolades, like Best Bread, Best Vegetarian Restaurant, Best Place for a First Date, Best Place for Lunch and Most Romantic Restaurant.
Pastabilities is open for dinner every day and lunch during the week. It includes outdoor dining, all food is available for carryout and is served with homemade bread. The restaurant is probably best known for its bread, and in 1997 it opened a companion store across the street. The bakery, Pasta's Daily Bread, sells homemade bread, pasta and sauces, so the public can create their own pastabilities. Pastabilities is the best in Syracuse when you want to get off campus for a night out on the town.
