JUNE 5, 12:55 P.M. - The autopsy for John Pike, a 2006 Syracuse University graduate, revealed "no determination" to the Massachusetts Medical Examiners Office Monday, said Charles McDonald, spokesman for the Executive Office of Public Safety.

"The autopsy has been done, but the cause of death is pending," said McDonald, who oversees the examiners office that conducted the autopsy.

McDonald said it could take "many, many weeks" before the cause of death is confirmed.

Pike, drummer for Ra Ra Riot, an indie-pop band made up of Syracuse residents and SU alumni, was found under seven feet of water off the coast of southeastern Massachusetts Sunday afternoon after leaving a house party at about 3 a.m. early Saturday morning.

Fairhaven Police Department Chief Gary F. Souza said no major updates have occurred in the investigation of Pike's death since the weekend search.

"There were a number of people who saw him leave the party," Souza said. "In my understanding, they didn't believe he was leaving for a great amount of time, that he was just stepping outside."

Souza declined to say whether Pike consumed alcohol the night he went missing. But he said there were people consuming alcohol at the party.

No weapons were recovered on the beach or in the water, Souza said. He also said police believe Pike was "totally unfamiliar" with the area and "didn't really know where to go."

"Our information from the family, which appears to be pretty solid is that he was not at all fond of the water and not a particularly strong swimmer," Souza said.

Pike attended the house party Friday night after playing a show in Providence, R.I., the first of a 17-city tour that was scheduled to end Aug. 12 in Cambridge, Mass. Ra Ra Riot was also planned to perform at Monolith Festival on Sept. 14 with The Flaming Lips, The Decemberists, Spoon and other bands.

As of Monday evening, the band's June 8 performance at Sweet Jane's in Hartford, Conn. has been cancelled, according to the band's MySpace page. The status of the rest of the band's tour and festival performance are still unknown.
