Portland and New York also swapped personnel in a separate five-player trade. The Trailblazers traded oft-troubled forward Zach Randolph, guards Dan Dickau and Fred Jones to the Knicks for guard Steve Francis and forward Channing Frye.
Nichols joins DePaul's Wilson Chandler, selected at No. 23, as new Knicks rookies. With the trade and draft selections, New York has 17 players on its active roster, two over the limit, which means Thomas is not done revamping the roster. The Knicks finished 33-49 in 2006-07.
Thomas thinks Nichols is a player who fits his team's system.
"The way we want to play inside out, he is a guy that can definitely spot up outside the 3-point line and knock it down," Thomas said.
Besides Nichols, five other Big East players were drafted. Georgetown's Jeff Green was taken at No. 5 by Boston and traded to Seattle, Chandler by the Knicks, Pittsburgh's Aaron Gray (No. 49, Chicago), Providence's Hill and DePaul's Sammy Mejia (No. 57, Detroit).

Congrats to Nichols. He had some great efforts but his overrall contribution and his consistency fall way short of GMAC's. Just check the stats if your memory doesn't serve you well. (Continued…)
