The Daily OrangeFire at Shaw Hall contained early Thursday morning; cause still under investigation

The fire occurred in one room on the second floor and was contained shortly after, said Corporal Kim Isaac from the Department of Public Safety.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A person was seen being put on a gurney and taken away by ambulance after the building was evacuated. One person sustained a minor burn to the finger, said John Day, a DPS officer.
Two fire trucks and multiple emergency vehicles arrived shortly after the alarm went off. Students waited outside on Comstock Avenue, across the street from the building.
Around 4:15 a.m., resident advisors and police offers asked to speak to students who lived on the first floor of Shaw. Some students were still speaking with police and EMTs when residents were allowed back into the building at approximately 4:35 a.m.
Firefighters were seen pushing water out of a first floor door with brooms on the north side of the building into the Shaw parking lot. The current amount of residents displaced by the water damage is unknown.
A second alarm went off around 5:50 a.m. and students were evacuated for less than five minutes before being allowed back into the building.
According to Syracuse University's Web site, Shaw houses 451 undergraduates.

Wow... I wonder if it was my old room 287? We used to get mischievous in there but the worst we did was kick out the screen in 1990 to lend a buddy my lighter. (Continued…)
