Ron Meyer, president and chief operating officer of Universal Studios since 1995, will visit Syracuse University today. He will be speaking in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse III at 12:30 p.m..
Largely responsible for planning the event, Stuart Lisson, executive producer and director of electronic media communications at SU, said the session will consist of a short introduction and then question-and-answer time.
"He is very candid in his remarks and gives students an insider's look at the entertainment industry," Lisson said. "He also reflects on qualities that help spell success for newcomers to the entertainment field."
Meyer is visiting Syracuse for Universal's world premiere of "The Express," a biographical film about the life of SU running back Ernie Davis.
Television, radio and film professor Richard Dubin has known Meyer since the early 1980s.
"Ron's legacy is that good guys finish first," he said. "I honestly have never heard a negative thing about Ron Meyer, and in this business, that's saying something."
Evan Smith, an associate professor in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, said he believes Meyer will have valuable lessons for students.
"While others might be just as bright and just as driven, Ron Meyer is known for being a straight shooter and someone you can always count on," Smith said.
Meyer also hosts an annual trip to Hollywood for SU students and has served as a chair of the Newhouse Mirror Awards in New York City.
Meyer worked at the William Morris Agency and the Paul Kohner Agency before co-founding the Creative Artists Agency in 1975.
