Ra Ra Riot has played for Conan O'Brien, David Letterman National
Public Radio, and now the Syracuse graduates and internationally
famous indie musicians are back in town for a show at the Westcott
Theater.
Ra Ra Riot is playing this Saturday with So Many Dynamos, Cut Off Your
Hands and Sophistafunk. The tour date was announced in February.
For some students, however, the upcoming show at The Westcott is
already a bit of a disappointment. Passion Pit, a highly hyped
electro-pop quintet, dropped out of the show last week. Passion Pit
has since been replaced by So Many Dynamos.
"I've seen Ra Ra Riot perform 12 times at least. Twice in London, and
all over the place: Albany, Geneva, NY, Syracuse, house parties, real
venues, and I don't think I can fork over $15 for the show to see them
now," said Jett Wells a junior magazine journalism major. "If it was
$10 I'd go, or if Passion Pit was playing."
Ra Ra Riot formed in 2006, and since then, the band has put out a
self-titled album and a critically acclaimed chamber pop full-length,
titled "The Rhumb Line." Ra Ra Riot suffered a tragedy in June 2007,
when drummer and co-songwriter John Pike died unexpectedly.
This is not the first time Ra Ra Riot has returned to Syracuse since
graduating in 2006. The band has played several shows in the area,
including performances at Funk 'n Waffles and off-campus houses.
Most recently, Ra Ra Riot opened for Talib Kweli and Bloc Party at
Juice Jam this past fall.
Ra Ra Riot will begin touring with indie monolith Death Cab for Cutie
on April 7.
