The Syracuse men's soccer team failed to defend its Mayor's Cup championship, losing, 1-0, to Loyola (Md.) in double-overtime Friday and 1-0 to Bucknell Sunday in Oneonta, N.Y. The Orange has now lost three consecutive contests, two of which have come in overtime.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Ryan Jones kept the Orange in both matches with 10 saves on the weekend, earning all-tournament team honors. Senior midfielder Kenny Caceros also made the all-tournament team.

In Friday's loss the Orange out-shot the Greyhounds, 21-14, in the contest and held a 4-1 margin in the overtime sessions. But Loyola goalkeeper Kyle Wittman made seven saves, including two in the second overtime, keeping the Orange off the scoreboard.

Loyola's Jamie Darvill scored the only goal of the match four minutes, 12 seconds into the second overtime period to give the Greyhounds (2-1-1) the victory. It was the first loss for the Orange in five Mayor's Cup matches.

Against Bucknell, the Orange defense again held its opponent scoreless for most of the game. SU registered eight shots on goal during the match, but was again shut-out. Tournament MVP Conor O'Brien tallied the game-winning score with 2:58 remaining in regulation, when he deflected Luke Joyner's shot from 22 yards out into the SU net.

Women's Soccer

The Syracuse women's soccer team entered the weekend looking to ride the momentum of back-to-back shutouts into Colgate and Niagara. The Orange continued its success with its third straight 1-0 victory Friday night against Colgate and managed a 0-0 tie on Sunday against Niagara.

Jenna Rickan scored her first career goal off of a redirection from Rosina Callisto's shot. The game's only goal came in the 62nd minute of the game. Colgate threatened the Orange late, but Syracuse was able to fight off the rainy conditions and the Raiders' late attack.

The Orange continued to play strong defense Sunday when it tied Niagara on the road, 0-0. After out-shooting the Purple Eagles, 6-3, in the first half and not capitalizing on four corner kicks, Syracuse, like Niagara, squandered its fair amount of scoring opportunities in the second half and overtime.
