Come together, right now, over the Beatles.
2009 marks the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the release of "Abbey Road", the Beatles' last album together. The Westcott Theater will pay homage to the iconic album by hosting a concert this Friday at 9 p.m.
The show is open to people of all ages, with a $10 cover charge and doors opening at 8 p.m. The show will feature local artists The Timothy Wood Band, who will perform their original music followed by covering the Beatles' "Abbey Road."
The concert comes at a time where there is a surge in Beatles awareness due to the release of a Beatles-themed video game, The Beatles: Rock Band, and several remastered albums. Dan Mastronardi of the Westcott Theater said that students should come to the show for the cultural experience.
"It's going to be cool," Mastronardi said. "It's something different that doesn't really happen every day. We're recreating the whole 'Abbey Road' album."
But for those students interested in the show, it has more to do with their love of the Beatles than the recent attention the prolific band has been receiving.
"I like the Beatles and it's close and the theater's cool," said senior biology and economics major Fabian Wagner.
However, the Friday night time slot and the upcoming long weekend is a conflict for many students. Students are either busy or going home for the three-day weekend, which may have an affect on the attendance at the event.
This may be the first of many similar events for headliner The Timothy Woods Band. According to the band's MySpace page they plan to do similar events paying homage to other classic musicians.
There are students, however, that don't think the cover concert is the best way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of "Abbey Road's" release.
"Even though I am a fan of the Beatles I probably wouldn't go because I'd want to see the actual Beatles, rather than a cover band," said sophomore political science major Greg Fitton. "I'm not too much of a fan of cover bands,"

The Tim Wood band is as far from a cover band as the current human race is from the age of dinosaurs. His band writes all original music; see for yourself:

I agree with Lewk. The Tim Wood band have never before played a live cover. They are band rich in talent. In fact, they have such luscious talent at their disposal, that they rejected me when I offered to come in on accordian with them. (Continued…)

Thats right Joe, we have no need for an accordian player. Though we could use a new bass player. Perhaps you can suggest someone?
