A Syracuse University student was robbed at 2:45 a.m. this past Saturday on the corner of Euclid and Comstock avenues - the closest robbery to the campus out of the six robberies that have occurred in the past month. With conjoined efforts between the Department of Public Safety and the Syracuse Police Department, the suspects were located and arrested soon after the incident occurred.

With their quick reaction to the robbery, and the recent installment of 168 video surveillance cameras throughout campus, DPS is making a conscious effort to keep the campus safer. However, students also need to be more aware of their surroundings because it is impossible for DPS to cover the entire campus at all times.

It is unsettling that students need to walk around campus with increased caution, but the unfortunate circumstances need to keep students in a heightened state of awareness.

DPS's first priority should be to ensure parameters to the campus are safe and that there is a constant patrol in areas that students walk, especially when it is dark.

Since there is not one specific place in which robberies are constantly occurring, it's hard to say what part of campus is safe and what parts to stay away from. It's comforting to know how quickly DPS reacted to the incident on Saturday but students need to be extra careful when walking around campus, especially when they are by themselves.
