To arrive fashionably late to a party may be in good taste, but arriving 40 minutes late to your own show before a drunken audience isn't.
Much more shouldn't be expected from Broken Lizard, the comedy troupe behind movies such as "Beerfest" and "Super Troopers" that performed Thursday night at The Westcott Theater.
The group drew multiple jokes and skits from the content of its movies, resulting in a night of hilarious reenactments from different film scenes.
"My favorite part of the show was probably when they all came out at the beginning dressed as their 'Super Troopers' counterparts. Picking on Sasquatch was definitely a highlight," said Jamie Berman, a sophomore public relations major.
While dressed as the Super Troopers, they performed a strip search on a few audience members during which Farva (Kevin Heffernan) found some money on one of the audience members and said, "You got $4 in your wallet. You can get a ZJ for that!"
Following the strip search was some standup by Steve Lemme, which went from being a bit corny to being outright gross. The entire standup was about masturbation and lasted much longer than any of the sober audience members would have liked. He did redeem himself later in the show when both Lemme and Heffernan shared fun and interesting stories about their idol, Patrick Swayze.
Heffernan was the crowd favorite by the end of the show, mostly because of his talk about the infamous powdered sugar scene from "Super Troopers," where Heffernan is seen in full-frontal nudity. He bragged that everyone has seen him naked, including President Barack Obama, as it is rumored that the president has seen "Super Troopers."
Another hilarious Heffernan scene was the reenactment of the famous Abbott and Costello routine "Who's on First," with Erik Stolhanske on steroids. The routine was repeated over and over again, and after attempting to beat up a few cast members, the scene ended with the troupe finally getting it right and Erik storming off stage.
The last bit they performed was a drinking contest modeled after "Beerfest" between the Broken Lizard cast and a few audience members. The cast pulled off the win, but they added a nice touch by giving the contestants each a part in their next movie.
Broken Lizard carried the testosterone-fueled humor throughout the entire show. Swearing and sexual innuendos were scattered throughout almost every sentence, but they only added to the humor. Broken Lizard is much more blue-collar comedy than high-class standup. What makes them funny is that they're absurd, crazy, everyday men who are brave enough to just say what all guys are thinking.
